ELPRO is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026. In this special year, we’re not only looking back at our roots, but also introducing some of the people who have shaped ELPRO over the years in an exclusive video series. One of them is Margrit Ulmer, who has been with the company since 1986 and therefore ranks among ELPRO’s longest‑serving employees.

Margrit Ulmer began her career at the age of 22, at what was then the engineering office Schmid, the predecessor of today’s ELPRO. For many years, she worked in production, where she was responsible for soldering tasks. After the birth of her first child, she was able to continue her work from home. Her husband, Rolf Ulmer, collected materials from the company two to three times a week and returned the finished components to ELPRO.

“That worked perfectly for 15 years—and not just for me. Through this arrangement, Rolf also ended up joining ELPRO. During one of the deliveries, he was approached and told: Someone like you would be very useful here.”

When she returned to the company fulltime—by then her children were independent—Margrit Ulmers range of responsibilities expanded significantly. With the introduction of the new LIBEROT data logger, she increasingly took on independent tasks such as configuration, calibration and assembly of the devices. She particularly valued the direct interaction with customers. The combination of technical work, a sense of responsibility and independent working already reflected her strengths at that time. Today, her responsibilities also include production planning, where she coordinates workflows within the team.

Over the decades, Margrit Ulmer has witnessed not only ELPRO’s technical and organisational growth, but also its transformation from a small, familylike team into a globally operating company. Despite these expanded structures, she still sees the companys core values intact: respectful interaction, mutual support among colleagues, and a working environment that fosters cohesion.

“ELPRO has grown, but respect for one another, helpfulness and team spirit have remained. This ELPRO feeling is what I wish for us in the future.”
