40 Years of ELPRO: From Early Innovation to a Global Provider of Environmental Monitoring Solutions

ELPRO is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1986, the Swiss company has grown from an early technology pioneer into an internationally recognized provider of environmental monitoring solutions for the pharmaceutical, healthcare, life science, biobanking and logistics industries.

ELPRO’s journey in environmental monitoring began in the late 1980s with the development of one of its first electronic data loggers. The initial objective was to reliably identify and document temperature deviations during refrigerated transport. This early innovation laid the foundation for continuous temperature monitoring—first in food logistics and later in the storage and transportation of pharmaceutical products.

Over the following decades, ELPRO continuously expanded its portfolio. Central monitoring systems, USB PDF data loggers, automated data evaluation, as well as database and software solutions fundamentally changed the way environmental data is collected, analyzed and shared across the supply chain. The offering was further complemented by single-use and multi-use transport data loggers, cloud-based monitoring solutions, real-time IoT technologies, and specialized GxP services.
